Status of State Licenses During Pandemic

We’ve received questions from our members about what to do with state licenses, including driver’s licenses,  that may be expiring over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.  As noted in OAMES 4/27/2020 ebulletin, the Ohio General Assembly passed HB 197 which requires all licenses to be extended until December 1, 2020 or 90 days after the state’s health emergency order is lifted.  You’ll find additional details on page 37 of the bill’s analysis

This delay also includes driver licenses, CDLs, identification cards, temporary instruction permits, vehicle registrations and vehicle temporary tags.  Refer to the State’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles website for details and FAQs.  Also note that the federal “Real ID” requirement initially scheduled to go into effect October 1, 2020, has been delayed one year.
